What a better way to make the most of your visit to this Wonder of the World than combining it with the astounding, rich in culture and nature, Sacred Valley. This valley is home of some the most important archeological sites, striking colonial towns, handicrafts markets and native, old Inca citadels. This is the perfect introduction to the wonders of Aguas Calientes town and the masterpiece of architecture, urbanism, art and engineering of the Inca Civilization: Machu Picchu.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: LAST MINUTE BOOKINGS (LESS THAN 4 WEEKS BEFORE THE TOUR DATE):
If you reserve a Machu Picchu tour within 4 weeks of the departure date - there is likely some adjustments we must make to the itinerary so we can help you to secure an entrance to the ruins. We strongly recommended for all travellers to book a Machu Picchu tour well in advance (3+ months) to avoid these requirements.
As Machu Picchu tickets sell out in advance, the authorities are currently releasing a very limited number of entrance tickets at the Aguas Calientes ticket office for the next day. To acquire one of these last minute tickets there is a queue system in Aguas Calientes. We will assist all last minute reservations with this process.
The circuit you can usually expect to do at Machu Picchu is Circuit 1 or 2. However, this is not a guarantee, there is a small risk Circuit 1 & 2 are sold out even at the Machu Picchu ticket office in which case the traveller would need to pay an additional 48 soles to purchase a Circuit 3 or 4 entrance ticket. We have no way of impacting on that in advance and it will depend on the availability and queue on the day.
You’ll be picked up from your hotel/hostel between 7:00am-7:30am and be taken to the town of Pisac. This small, beautiful village is full of history and is the entrance hall to the Sacred Valley. Here we’ll visit the archaeological centre and the traditional market where you’ll be able to buy some local souvenirs for yourself or loved ones back home.
We then continue on to Urubamba, where we’ll stop for lunch, before heading to Ollantaytambo. We will again discover the astonishing Inca architecture and the beauty of the local culture.
From there, we make our way to the train station to take the 2-hour train ride to Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival, our team will be waiting for you to welcome you to this small town, give all the details necessary and take you to the hostel where you’ll spend the night.
We make our way to Machu Picchu early in the morning after having breakfast. We take on a 2-hour walk up the stone steps to reach the entrance of the citadel. During the walk up you’ll get to witness the beautiful sunrise and amazing views as you get higher and higher. Alternatively, you can take the 15 minute bus ride to the citadel (not included).
Once in Machu Picchu you will have a 2-hour guided tour of the ruins where you see the Main Plaza, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Solar Clock, the Royal Quarters, and more. You’ll also learn all about the Incas, their culture and the history of Machu Picchu. After the tour you will have some free time to explore, take pictures, or just walk around the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu.
Finally, you’ll make your way back down to Aguas Calientes town to take the train back at either 06:20pm or before (subject availability) from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo, and then a private mini-van back to Plaza San Francisco in Cusco.
Exploring Machu Picchu is not strenuous at all. To reach the Inca citadel, you have the option of either a 1.5-hour hike up or a 20-minute bus ride. Once at the site, it’s just like walking around any other city – it’s even at a lower altitude than the city of Cusco!
Luckily Machu Picchu is open 7 days a week, all-year round. Our recommendation is to visit between April through May and from September through October. June, July and August is when the weather is best, but also the busiest.
Our tour departs with a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 8 people.
